ToggleEPF, or the Employees’ Provident Fund, is a money-saving tool. Both employers and employees commit an equal amount of money towards the savings fund so that employees can receive the money from the EPF after their retirement or when they change their jobs.
There are a lot of ways to check your EPF balance. For example, you can check your EPF balance using SMS, EPFO, the Umang app, etc. You can also use the EPF calculator to manage your funds. This article will discuss multiple ways to check your EPF balance using a step-by-step process.
Let’s see how to check EPF account balance!
Currently, the applicable interest rate on EPF contributions is 8.1% which will be revised after 31st December 2022.
Before checking your EPF balance, you must confirm with your employer if they have already activated your UAN or Universal Account Number. Your UAN is a mandatory ID through which you can access your EPF account and check your EPF balance. Every employee enrolled under the EPF scheme must be furnished with a UAN.
Your UAN number will remain the same even if you change your employer. After the company or your employer has activated your UAN number, you can apply for an EPF loan application, withdraw money from your EPF account and check your EPF balance.
Follow the instructions given below to check your EPF balance:
After checking your EPF balance, you can use the EPF calculator online to evaluate the amount of money generated by EPF every year. Moreover, the EPF calculator accurately evaluates your funds and can keep you updated with recent EPF regulations.
If your UAN has been consolidated with your KYC details, you can check your EPF account balance by sending an SMS. Send your EPF account details in the ‘EPFOHO UAN ENG‘ format to 7738299899, after which you will receive a message mentioning your EPF account balance.

This SMS will consist of last PF contribution and balance details along with available KYC information.
The EPFO SMS facility is available in English (default) and Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Bengali.
For receiving the SMS in any language other than English, you have to add the first three characters of the preferred language.
For example, to receive EPFO details on SMS in Gujarati then SMS needs to be sent like this – “EPFOHO UAN GUJ” to 7738299899.
Remember that the SMS should be sent from the registered mobile number of UAN.
This facility is currently available in the following 10 (ten) languages:
Another easy and popular way to check your EPF balance is by giving a missed call through your registered mobile number. You can easily use this facility if your UAN has already been integrated with your KYC.
Once you have checked your EPF balance through a missed call, you will better understand your current account balance. You can also use the EPF calculator to check how much money you will receive after a certain period. Furthermore, you won’t have to check your EPF balance regularly every month.
Anyone with a valid UAN can now check their EPF balance using the UMANG or EPFO app. UMANG is the acronym for Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance, and you can certainly use this app to check the EPF balance, track the status of your EPF claims, and file for a claim.
However, to use the UMANG app, employees must complete a one-time registration process utilizing their registered phone number. Follow the instructions mentioned below to check your EPF account balance in the UMANG app:
While it is a good practice to check your EPFO UAN balance regularly, you will also have to think about your future. With the help of an EPF calculator, you can evaluate how much funds you will have when you reach your retirement age and plan accordingly.
Just give a missed call to 9966044425 to receive the PF details on SMS. Ensure that the number from which you are calling should be the number linked with PAN, Aadhaar or Bank Account.
